The short answer

These are the steps the Colorado agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fees are $95 to $120, depending on the suspension. Whether an SR-22 is also required depends on your case.

The steps below are the ones the state lists for a suspension after a crash without insurance.

Steps listed by the Colorado agency

  1. Mail in a completed Form DR 2870, Application for Reinstatement.
  2. Include the reinstatement fee stated on Form DR 2870 ($95.00); it can also be paid online with myDMV.
  3. Include an SR-22 from your insurance company and maintain it continuously for three years following restoration.
  4. Satisfy one Financial Responsibility item: release from liability (DR 2100), adjudication of non-liability, promissory note (DR 2567), waiver (DR 2090), affidavit (DR 2314), bond or cash deposit, or bankruptcy discharge; or, after three years from the accident, submit DR 2314.

Check your status first

Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.

Check status with the state

Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Early Reinstatement (Interlock) restricted license. Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
