How We Build and Check the SR-22 Data
Every state rule in our data (fees, minimum limits, SR-22 use and duration) comes from a state agency website, statute or regulation, checked on October 19, 2026. Uninsured-driver rates come from the Insurance Research Council's own news release and are shown only for the states it names. We cover all 50 states and DC: 40 rows are fully verified and 11 are marked with a dagger (†) because the state does not publish one of the facts.
What we collect
- Whether the state uses an SR-22, or the same rule under another name.
- The state's own fees: SR-22 fee where one exists, and license reinstatement fees.
- Minimum liability limits, with recent changes and their dates.
- How long the SR-22 must be kept, and when the clock starts where the state says.
- The share of uninsured drivers from the Insurance Research Council, where published.
Sources we accept
State motor vehicle, public safety, revenue and insurance agency pages, state statutes and administrative rules. We do not use insurer or comparison site pages as sources for state rules. Each row in the CSV lists its source links and a short quote is kept in our research files.
Verified and dagger rows
A row is verified when every field is confirmed on a state source. A dagger (†) means one field could not be confirmed there, for example a state that never names the SR-22 form or does not state a duration. The CSV says which field.
What we leave out
We do not publish insurance prices or recommend insurers. The filing charge an insurer adds to an SR-22 varies by company and is not a state fee.
