How to Restore Your Florida License After a No-Insurance Suspension
The short answer
These are the steps the Florida agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fees are $15 to $500, depending on the suspension. After a no-insurance suspension Florida requires proof to be kept for 2 years (s. 324.0221(3)); an SR-22 for 3 years applies after a crash or judgment suspension.
Steps listed by the Florida agency
- Contact your insurance company and purchase a Florida based insurance policy with at least $10,000 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and $10,000 Property Damage Liability (PDL), and request they electronically report your policy to FLHSMV.
- Pay the reinstatement fee specified in your letter ($150 first, $250 second, $500 for each later reinstatement within 3 years, s. 324.0221(3)).
- Online: at MyDMVPortal.flhsmv.gov choose the Driver License tab and select Sanction Inquiry to update insurance and pay.
- In person: bring your insurance information and pay at a driver license and motor vehicle service center or tax collector office (an additional $6.25 service fee may apply).
- By mail: return the Instructions for Complying by Fax or Mail form, a copy of current insurance and a check or money order payable to Motorist Services.

Check your status first
Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.
Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Hardship license (business or employment purposes only). Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
