How to Restore Your Georgia License After a No-Insurance Suspension

Last checked · Sources listed below

The short answer

These are the steps the Georgia agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fees are $200 to $310, depending on the suspension. Whether an SR-22 is also required depends on your case.

Steps listed by the Georgia agency

  1. 1st offense: the license must be suspended for 60 days to be eligible.
  2. Show proof of insurance (1st offense); for a 2nd or later offense present a Georgia SR-22A (insurer may fax it to DDS) and maintain it for 3 years.
  3. Pay the reinstatement fee: $200 by mail or online / $210 in person (1st offense); $300 / $310 (2nd or later).
  4. Pay by mail, online through DDS Online Services, or in person at a DDS Customer Service Center.

Check your status first

Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.

Check status with the state

Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Limited driving permit. Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
