How to Restore Your Kentucky License After a No-Insurance Suspension
The short answer
These are the steps the Kentucky agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fee is $40. Kentucky uses its own proof-of-insurance rule instead of the SR-22 name.
In Kentucky, a gap in insurance mainly affects the vehicle registration; the steps below follow the state's own process.
Steps listed by the Kentucky agency
- Satisfy all suspension requirements (paying the fee alone does not restore driving privileges)
- Pay the $40 reinstatement/re-licensing fee online with myDrive, in person, by mail, or by phone
- If suspended for more than one year, pass vision and written tests (fee must be paid before testing)
- For a revoked registration, present proof of insurance to the County Clerk's office to register the vehicle

Check your status first
Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.
Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Ignition Interlock License; hardship license under KRS 189A.410. Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
