How to Restore Your Louisiana License After a No-Insurance Suspension
The short answer
These are the steps the Louisiana agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fees are $50 to $525, depending on the suspension. Whether an SR-22 is also required depends on your case.
Steps listed by the Louisiana agency
- Provide proof of compliance by fax, mail or online: proof of insurance with a company authorized to write in Louisiana, cancellation or surrender of the plate, or proof of the date the vehicle was disposed.
- If the vehicle was not insured or disposed of timely, pay the fee based on days without insurance: $125 (2-30 days), $275 (31-90 days), $525 (91 days and above).
- Pay by phone with a debit or credit card, by mail with a money order, certified funds or cashier's check, or through the OMV online payment cart (la.accessgov.com).
- Check the Driver Reinstatement Status Inquiry for remaining flags; the license is not fully reinstated until all flags are resolved.

Check your status first
Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.
Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Restricted (hardship) license, La. R.S. 32:415.1. Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
