How to Restore Your New Mexico License After a No-Insurance Suspension
The short answer
These are the steps the New Mexico agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fees are $25 to $102, depending on the suspension. The New Mexico agency lists proof of insurance, not an SR-22, for reinstatement.
In New Mexico, a gap in insurance mainly affects the vehicle registration; the steps below follow the state's own process.
Steps listed by the New Mexico agency
- Obtain adequate insurance and have your insurance agent update your insurance information on the New Mexico Insurance Identification Database (IIDB)
- Wait a minimum of 24 hours after the update before going to an MVD Field Office to reinstate your vehicle registration
- Pay the $30.00 reinstatement fee for a suspended registration
- For a driver license financial responsibility suspension (D38 or D39), show current liability insurance listing the driver, plus any required release, and pay the $25 license reinstatement fee
Check your status first
Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.
Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Ignition Interlock License. Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
