How to Restore Your North Dakota License After a No-Insurance Suspension

Last checked · Sources listed below

The short answer

These are the steps the North Dakota agency lists to restore a license after a suspension for no insurance. The state's reinstatement fees are $50 to $100, depending on the suspension. Whether an SR-22 is also required depends on your case.

Steps listed by the North Dakota agency

  1. Look up your reinstatement requirements and fee amount online.
  2. Get an SR-22 from an auto insurance company and send it to drs@nd.gov or fax 701-328-2435 (insurance ID cards, declarations pages and binders are not accepted).
  3. Pay the reinstatement fee online, by mail (check or money order), by phone, or at a local Driver License office if it is the last remaining requirement.
  4. Keep the SR-22 for one year from the date the office receives it.

Check your status first

Check your license status or reinstatement requirements on the state's own website before you pay anything.

Check status with the state

Need to drive to work while suspended? The state offers a Temporary Restricted License (TRL), form SFN 2254. Many states limit these licenses to certain suspensions, such as DUI cases, so check that it covers yours.
